Of Bead and Dreams
Of Bead and Dreams by Mariko
Watching myself gazing at a body of water I am a stranger
In a black dress hanging on a stiff mannequin
Do the lies I tell reveal the truth of the human condition
If I just disappeared what would my friends say
If I were writing letters to my great-granddaughter would I share the poems I wrote during this stage time
Collective sleep-waking dreams and cakes baking in ovens not used to the baking of bread
I eat an oatmeal cookie and ponder my last unsatisfactory phone date and the bread I baked last week tastes hard and rubbery between my lips
Will I find the motivation to clean the floors today or stay held by this soft beda little longer inhabiting this waking dream
